Contractor Checklist

What to look for when hiring a painting contractor:

Though the process might seem nerve-wracking here’s a checklist to make it foolproof. When hiring a GREAT painting contractor, these are the things you should look for:

1.Check for references. Ask to visit one of their current job sites.

2.Make sure they show you proof of insurance, workers compensation and licensing information.

3.Be suspicious of painters who ask for a deposit. If they don’t have enough up-front money to pay for materials, they probably don’t have an established business.

4.Ask about product and labor warranties. The best painters can extend warranties in writing because their suppliers trust them.

5.Check their QBSA License online. Great painters should have a clean slate or at least that any complaints have been resolved.

6.Look for these important extras: Did they carefully walk around and take measurements of your painting project? Is their quote detailed and professionally presented? Are their sales materials, paint product information and work vehicles organized?

7.Is the price competitive? Not the lowest…remember you get what you pay for…you should always get three quotes on home projects like painting.

8.Are they active in the community and members of professional associations? Great painters are well-established, civic-minded professionals with local roots.

If your contractor passes this checklist, then you can feel comfortable hiring them and you should be in good shape to receive a great paint job!
